Well, the queen celegbrates her 80th birthday today, so what do you think of our royal family? this might be hard for some to answer, but thought i'd put it up here.

I think they need to have more immdeiate contact with real life and real every day people, it would do them no harm to spend 6 months living in a run down area of Glasgow, or Edinburgh. I have little time for them really, and I can just imagine the trouble when King Billy decides to visit Northern Ireland. Also be assured that Harry will not see any front line action if he is shipped off to Iraq, graduating from Sandhurst, is a guaranteed way to dodge the fighting.

Damned, your cynical Goblin. I like the pomp and circumstance--but I don't live under it (or do I?)

Yes I'm also a realist do you honestly think the firm live in the real world, not a bit of it her Maj is the richest woman on earth and she still refuses to throw anything away, and think of the problems that could be solved by a large yearly donation by her Maj.

Congradulations to Quene Elizabeth II I just think it's cool that she's the oldest living monarch

Same here Thomas, especially if you were put on the spot as it were, when she opened the school building at Dorton House when I was in the nursery. I was told later, I played something on the keyboard for her, but I can't ever remember actually doing that. aAll I can remember of it is one of the teachers coming over and whispering in my ear "would you like to play the keyboard for the queen?" I couldn't believe it. She was right there, in the nursery I attended and I had the chance to play for her and I was only about four or five years old at the time, obviously. Later, I was waving this stupid little plastic flag so hard as she left the school, I thought my arm was going to bloody drop off. I just think they're a lovely family.

I have absolutely no time, no respect and have a 0 tolerance level where the royal family is concerned. Firstly I believe that they are corrupt, there is a conspiracy that princess Diana's death was no accident, and I'm inclined to believe it, considering the way she died, and given who was in the car with her at the time. The queen would have the perfect motive to have Diana murdered, she was going out with an Arab, and that wouldn't look good for the precious royal family's reputation now would it! Also, they are merely a good decoration for great Britain, tourists come to see their places of residence. If all Britain has to offer as interest to many tourists is the royal family, then that shows the lack of activity and scenery that this country has to offer. Also, a percentage of the tax payer's money goes to the Queen every year, and surely none of the general public in their right would condone that. Maybe they are certain members of the royal family who are more done to earth, I don't know yet as a group they are a waste of the tax-payer's money. However I think would be better off as a republic such as is the case in France.

oh, and also, correct me if I'm wrong. But isn't the Queen the head of state? Which means that effectively she is above the law, so no justice for Princess Diana.

Tara your theory of the queen bumping off diana due to her relationship with Dodi Al Fayed is ridiculous in the extreme, it's one thing to disagree with their sickening wealth, but quite another to flaunt your hatred.

ok but, i'm not the only one who has come up with that theory. and I think hatred is a bit too strong a word.

I challenge every one who's anti the queen, to find another 80 year-old who's gone around the world as many times as the queen in the last year. I then challenge them to find a poor person who speaks "the queens english", and after those challenges have been completed, I challenge them to tell me who else in this country attracts so many tourists.

Even though I am not from the UK (unfortunately) I heard that the queen is the favourite member of the royal family. And I heard she is very close to her country sometimes. My grandmother said she still looks good for her age. So yeah ... quite amazing.

Well, i like some members more than others. prince william appears more down to earth than anyone else, attending football matches etc. i don't have much time for charles, i liked diana, and, i just wish they'd spend some time living like us. they'd soon be thankful for what they have.
